Sant Joan (Saint John): 23rd of June
Hello everyone! I'm going to talk about a festivity in Catalunya. It's called Sant Joan. It's got two parts, La Revetlla de Sant Joan (Saint John's Eve) and El Dia de Sant Joan (Saint John's Day). The most celebrated part is the first one. Its main cause is the summer solstice, so it is the shortest night of the whole year.
The festivity usually starts at about 7pm. The families and friends join and have a special dinner. There's not a typical menu for this day, but there is a special dessert, called Coca de Llardons (Crackling Cake). During the celebration, kids throw fireworks and light flares and a big fire.
In my case, I go to a friends' community swimming pool, and there we sing with my dad's guitar and swim. We also throw fireworks for hours. Our party lasts until nearly 4 o'clock in the morning!
I hope you liked my text! Good bye!
Helena Sanchez :)
